Charlie Stannard & Miles Creevy
MATCH REPORT by Phil Stopford.
Miles Creevy, Jamie Donnelly, Stewart Potter and Sean Preston all netted as Birkbeck thrashed CP Two 6-1 with a second half goal fest. A goalless first half was most notable for some interesting tackles being thrown about by CP Two and a referee who was unwilling to protect Birkbeck's players from the blatant fouls. Player/Manager Sean Preston getting himself booked after lashing out at CP2's right midfielder mirrored the frustration of the Birkbeck players at half time. But that is where the game turned around for the better for Orient. With only a few minutes gone in the second half Birkbeck started to assert their dominance. Miles Creevy delivered a freekick into the box from the left and centre back Jamie Donnelly was on hand to knock the ball in for his first of the season. Shortly after provider turned goal-scorer as Charlie Stannard whipped in a perfect cross from the right wing to Miles Creevy to finish away and give Birkbeck a deserved Two-Nil lead. The late tackles continued to fly in from CP2 and after one very late challenge only a few minutes earlier Captain Adam Meagher was forced to withdraw, unable to shake off the clattering he received. Birkbeck continued to play their passing game, determined not to stoop to the levels of their opponents. It was 3-0 after 62 minutes, another attack down the right wing against the exposed left back of CP two, who received little help from his winger, and Preston delivered the cross for Stewart Potter, who hit a sweet right footed volley back across goal for his first of the season. Five minutes later and Creeyy once again provided the assist, this time from a corner, for Preston to head home for 4-0 beating the CP2 defender who wasn't guarding his post. Creevy then added gloss to the score line firstly from a inch perfect lob over the keeper after good work again by Stannard and finally he made it 6-0 when Potter bicycled kicked James Javes's freekick over the defence for Creevy to finish easily in the left corner of the goal. With the game well beyond CP2 at this point, they did manage to grab a late consolation with a tap in at the back post even though the player was offside. Not the first time the referee missed such an easy call. With a pretty emphatic victory and their fourth on the bounce in the league, Birkbeck go top for the first time this season. Player Manager Sean Preston, talking on the Birkbeck Whatsapp group after the game said this: "Stew's (Stewart Potter's goal) was a SCREAMER. Really liked Milo's second as well. He didn't look like he had any right to get there" When reflecting on the match just gone he added "Man of the Match today is a close one. Milo got a fricking hat-trick so I'm making him joint Man of the Match with Charlie who created so much (in the) second half and showed what he can do. Great stuff chaps. TOP OF THE LEAGUE!" |
