MATCH REPORT by George James
Not the result we wanted today but the score would have been far closer but for the spectacular collapse of the 3-5-2 formation. That's what friendlies are for! They didn't lose a game all year and we matched them for large periods of the game on a giant pitch in crippling heat. Particularly strong showings from Raf, Marius (ignoring the first minute😆) and Pat today. Very encouraging. As always, (no coincidence) that our strongest periods were when we were keeping the ball on the ground. Everyone needs to be providing an option when we're in possession. I'm not against a drink over the top (an important part of the arsenal on marshes) but long ball every time knackered everybody today and didn't help us. Sean said it best: if we've got the ball, and your marker is just walking behind you you're not working hard enough. Make yourself available and it benefits everybody. We know we're good enough to pass through most sides we face so head up , call for it and demand the ball to feet. It was quiet out there today. I'm no CB so can't suggest a solution but their long period of corners caused a bit of chaos today. I was glad we got the practice and didn't concede but it remains something for us to work on as a unit at the back. Everything else can be put down to pre-season fitness and match sharpness. Well played all and onto next week on grass and a normal sized pitch. |
