MATCH REPORT by Chris Jarvis and Phil Stopford.
Birkbeck started brightly, creating an early headed chance for Collins. Good interchange on the left wing between Weltman and Potter gave Weltman the chance to put in a cross, that Collins headed just over.
The first five minutes was all in Bow Badgers half but Birky couldn't make the pressure count. Bow Badgers were kept at bay and their only real chance in the first 15 came from a corner.
Birky continued to play fluid football and Collins got in again, this time after a dinked cross from Potter. The Badgers keeper was alive to the danger and covered his angles well.
As the half hour mark approached, Birkbeck keeper needed to make two neat saves, one of which was very brave, resulting a treatment on the pitch.
Not long after Orient scored from a corner. The initial ball in from Hutchinson rattled around in the box. With Badgers unable to clear their lines Patarou pounced and flicked it in, bottom right corner. 1-0 Birkbeck!
Minutes later Birkbeck were in again. Powering play from the back enable Chris Aggers to advance into the midfield area. His ball cut out the entire Bow midfield and defence. Collins was unable to convert the chance as the nibble Badgers keeper advanced on him quickly.
Bow responded with two quick-fire chances after getting the ball down on the floor instead of going over the top. Both blasted wide.
It wasn't long before a long Bow throw found and unmarked player in the box, who was able toe poke it in to the unmanned post. 1-1 Birkbeck had been much the better side, but hadn't made it count.
With 5 mins left in the half Bow found a well placed through ball and a cool finish put Bow 2-1 up.
Half time substitution sees Stopford withdraw due to injury and Jarvis enter the frey at right back and is almost immediately involved as he blocks off the Badgers' right winger, referee sees no problems with the challenge.
15 minutges into the second half sees Redd Hutchinson replace Collins and George James moves up top.
Both teams are vying and only creating half chances at best when Badgers plan A (long ball to right winger, hoof over the top to Sanchez), is cut out by Aggers, he releases Redd Hutchinson down the right who in turn finds James who rolls his marker and fires low into the bottom corner. Lovely goal by Birkbeck to level the match.
With Birkbeck spurred on from the equaliser, win two corners in quick succession, the second of which results in a long corner from Martin Hutchinson that finds Jonny on the edge of the box, he in turn whips the ball in and Badger's usually composed keeper collides with one of his defenders and the ball falls perfectly for James to slot home for his second. 3-2 to Birkbeck.
Badgers's long ball Plan A catches the Birkbeck defence flat and keeper Ceorcea is unable to prevent the equaliser. 3-3 and the game in heading into extra time.
The first period plays out with neither team able to take control but Birkbeck are down to 10 men for the second period of extra time and Bow take advantage from a corner kick that finds a Badgers man unmarked to head home for 3-4. Badgers add a fifth with 5 minutes to go with tired legs on the pitch for Birkbeck.
Birkbeck more than matched Badgers and should of won the game in normal time. The numbers game caught Birkbeck in the 2nd period of extra time.
George James receives the Player of the Match award, once he moved up front ran himself into the ground, getting Orient back in to the match with two well taken goals and chasing the ball down all across the front line, a constant problem for the defence to deal with. They move on back to the league with 2 straight wins and sitting nicely posed in 4th place, ready to take a promotion place.
