MATCH REPORT by Phil Stopford
Birkbeck's first friendly of the new season didn't get off to the best of starts, with the team being caught flat footed from the off and conceding within 30 seconds. That was as good as it got for Fish Island. Birkbeck, playing in the extreme heat of the day, allowed Island to run themselves out of energy and were level 10 minutes before the 1st break, as Martin Hutchinson broke out from defence, beat several Fish players and squared to Marius to finish for the O's. Fish Island made 5 changes at half time, Birkbeck two with the introduction of Player of the Match Liam Headley, who kept a cool head to slot home an excellent penalty to make the score 2-1. Orient had the chance to make it 3-1 from the penalty spot once again after Maruis' shirt was blatantly pulled, however Miles Creevy couldn't covert from 12 yards. Birkbeck's third goal came after James King-Patarou controlled a wayward pass by Manager Sean Preston, crossed in beautiful for Miles Creevy to wrong foot keeper and defender and slot home. Birkbeck controlled the majority of the game, playing some lovely football throughout, building out from the back. The score line flattered Fish Island with Orient looking good throughout. |
